Recruit Alert
Coach John-Ryan Morrison lands another recruit from Holland with Mees van Nouhuys committing to the Green & Gold.
The bench boss adds another strong centre midfielder from Stedelijk Gymnasium, approximately 40 kilometres from Elias Stiphout's home town, last year's team Rookie of the Year and 2nd Team All-Conference.
In choosing St. Thomas, Mees knew it was the best decision based on "the combination of STU having an ambitious soccer program with a team competing at a high level and a great academic program."
The Haarlem, Netherlands native also added "As I want to excel in both, STU is my perfect match. I am very much looking forward to becoming a student-athlete with the Tommies."
This bodes well for Coach Morrison who is looking to rebound from a loss in the ACAA Final on home turf in 2022.
"I am very excited by Mees' signing and I think he is going to be a great addition, not only for his on field abilities but his passion for learning and building communities fits into the pillars of our program," he said.
On the pitch, John-Ryan is excited about the increase in possession his team may see in the competitive conference.
"Thanks to his technical abilities, he passes the ball with precision, controls the ball and has good speed of play. His high soccer IQ allows him to read the play well and I think he adds a different dimension to our midfield." adds Coach Morrison.
Mees knows that playing for the Tommies brings a high standard.
"I will bring hard work, discipline and a strong desire to win to the Tommies. I will give it my all, and I am very much looking forward to being part of the soccer team, said the HBC Voetbal product.
Mees is the latest addition to the Men's Soccer team for the 2023-2024 season after the announcements of Brady Chapman, Kiran Hollman Prichard, Laurent Lambert, Oliver Altemeyer, and Bright Olaonis.
The 2023 ACAA Soccer schedule will be announced in May, with Season Passes on sale in August and training camp opening in late August for the STU Soccer teams.
