The St. Thomas Tommies topped the UPEI Panthers 4-1 Sunday afternoon in Charlottetown to finish the pre-season with a perfect 5-0 record.
The Tommies carried most of the play early on and were rewarded when Stephanie Ford beat Panthers netminder Kristy Brown for a 1-0 lead.
In the second stanza, the Tommies picked up where they left off as Kelty Apperson finished a nice pass from Lauren Henman for a 2-0 advantage. The Panthers cut their deficit to one later in the frame, capitalizing on the power play with a goal from Emma Martin.
The Tommies added two more goals in the third—one from Henman, who scored just 1:48 into the frame, and one from Apperson, who potted her second of the night at 13:19.
The Tommies outshot the Panters 34-17, and third-year goaltender Abby Clarke picked up the win in net.
The Tommies will open the regular season October 15 against SMU at 7:00pm at the Grant-Harvey Centre.
