Macie Urban Commits to Tommies Women's Volleyball
Fredericton, NB — St. Thomas University Tommies women’s volleyball team is excited to announce the commitment of outside hitter Macie Urban from Winnipeg, Manitoba for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
A standout at Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute and a key player for the Winman Volleyball Club, Macie brings a well-rounded athletic background and a driven mindset to the Tommies program.
“I will bring a competitive mindset and a relentless work ethic to the Tommies,” said Macie. “As an athlete, I’ve learned to stay focused, push through adversity, and support my team. I’m always striving to improve and help those around me succeed. Being part of a supportive team environment motivates me, and I’m ready to bring that energy to the Tommies both on and off the court.”
Macie was drawn to STU for more than just the athletics. The academic environment and community feel played a major role in her decision.
“I chose St. Thomas because it feels like a place where I can grow as a person and as a student,” she explained. “The smaller class sizes and tight-knit community really stood out to me. Coming from a smaller school here in Manitoba, I think it’ll be an easy adjustment. I also want to be somewhere that values connection, hard work, support, and meaningful relationships—and I believe STU will provide that.”
She plans to study Criminology, Law, and Politics while continuing to excel on the court. In her spare time, Macie enjoys golfing with friends and family and reading.
Macie is excited to join a program that emphasizes personal development and team culture.
“The program sounds amazing—supportive and focused on growth, both academically and athletically. Coach Kim seems incredibly dedicated to her players and knows how to challenge her team while making sure everyone feels supported. She’s competitive and determined, which I love in a coach. I can’t wait to learn from her and be one of her players.”
On and off the court Macie is focused and brings strong leadership skills. Bringing experience from a strong club system where she demonstrated her ability to consistently contribute in both front and back row, Macie adds depth to our team." - said Head Coach Kim Colpitts
